When I played a ranger, I carried a splitting maul, a falchion, and a bow. See, a splitting maul as a wide wedged axe on one side, and a hammer on the other. Together with the bow, I was more or less an all purpose badass.

Aren't all of your characters all purpose badasses, Raxon?

To be fair, my ranger was actually not all that imoressive for his level. He trained in 2HE, 2HB, and longbows. He permadied around level 40, and he could have been much more dangerous if he didn't train half a dozen weapon skills.

And no, it's about half and half between well balanced characters and specialists.

I do think I favor well balanced characters, though. Ranger is my favorite class, but that's mostly because I love rangers.

I think that is the reason i prefere Dragons and demons (swedish game) over dnd. By reducing combat to a skill among others, you realy open up the abuses of the other skills. I once combined trowing weapons, geology, zoology and medicin into a weapon of mass destruction
