One problem here that admittedly may not be a problem in Pathfinder, or may not be a problem because it has more HP than our paladin thought.... I think things can't fly when reduced below 50% HP

Yeah things can fly just fine at low hp.

Nobody said dragons can't get ranks in acrobatics.

To avoid provoking while gaining enough height to be outside their reach this turn (both gaining height and acrobatics each normally havle movement rate) he'd have to make a DC 35 Acrobatics check before the penalties from Misfortune, With Max ranks, a trait bonus and skill focus he'd still need a nat 20.

My guess is more likely it was a withdraw action

soo the dragon spent a full round while still not getting away from the main source of damage, the ranged palladin. or the 2 spellcasters for that matter. yeah, i would chalk that up to a win for the party, sucks for the meat shield, but he was almost one shoted by the dragon in melee anyways. forcing it to rely on breath attacks is a good thing, no full round attacks from something with 6 attack a round is definitely worth having a char relegated to nothing but aid another actions.

well, unless it has the fly by feat that only sadistic dms uses on their flying melee bosses, but what are the odds of their DM being one of those guys, right?
