An "encounter" is not necessarily lethal combat, simply arguing with someone and surviving , sneaking past them, conducting a buisness transaction or just bribing them to not hurt you is enough to get an XP reward. Basicaly anytime you meet someone with opposing goals and live to see the next day is a sucessful adventuring encounter.

So if I argue with someone, then sneak back and buy their stuff, I get triple xp? Hrmmm...

Argue with them, sneak in, steal their stuff, and successfully sell it back to them without them realizing it. If your DM doesn't give you bonus XP for that, they're playing too much by the book.

Upon further research I have decided that Boars are a very BAD way to grind to second level, they're essentially 2nd lv Barbarians with no loot and larger numbers while being worth less XP and they are specificaly listed to eat your bones so you couldnt be raised by your friends even if they could scrounge up the 10k gold to do it.

And THAT's why my gestalt Sorcerer dropped Fighter progression to pick up Druid. One of these days I'll run for a "Good"-aligned party of the core races and throw them at his home region. If they're the expected racist murderhobos who can't let go of their preconceived notions, they get to fight a Hobgoblin republic; if not, the Hobs will probably hire them as freelancers to do what their official forces can't spare the time and troops for.
As much as I hope for the latter, I really want to throw some party at my old character's magetower. I spent a silly amount of time setting up its defenses and non-Euclidean floor plan.
...my point being that the tower is surrounded by hungry magical superboars. Started gushing there; sorry.

Yeah... I know those rules. My typical GM doesn't usually follow them. He tends to only give xp for enemies beaten[Killed, knocked out, or otherwise incapacitated] EXP is almost never given for bypassed enemies or enemies that flee unfortunately. It annoys me a little, but i'm kind of used to it.

Such as when playing an assassin and you're hired during downtime for some of the party, you're supposed to sneak over a 15-foot wall with a constant patrol and basically nonexistent cover on the approach, guards all insight of each other, getting within like 100ft of the place with a magic item will light you up with basically Faerie Fire. Only a single entrance into the place, have to travel through the guard mess hall and lounge room to get to the target. Kill the target who is probably lvl 10ish, without letting any of the guards know, and then exfiltrate, under orders to not kill any of the guards or staff unless absolutely necessary while maintaining stealth.

All this gets you about 4k exp. I think the NPCs[One being my handler[Who traveled with the party], the other the contractor[Former bonus-boss?]] Outside got some of the exp, although the only hing that happened was a tiny bit of covering fire since the proof of kill was a magic ring. So I was lit up like the sun running away after I jumped the wall. That or I just got deducted exp to keep me from getting ahead of the group when I do those missions. I did make like 50-60k worth of loot off that though. I may have stolen like 30k worth of gems and a few magic daggers the target had. +2 Frost, +1 Wounding, +1 Returning, +1 Shocking. Mixed gems, estimated value between 20-50k.
